James & the Giant Peach, Jr is a fun ensemble musical with many opportunities for solos and speaking parts. Every student will be cast. (The casting committee is Ms. Davies, Ms. Gavin, and Ms. Alejandro. Heavy weight will be given to recommendations made by Ms. Davies and Ms. Alejandro. Parents are not allowed to decide the roles for their own children.)
Auditioning is easy and fun, and students should feel free to audition even if they don't feel prepared. However, if a student wants a larger speaking part and or musical solos, better preparation is more likely to lead to these parts.
Note that the links below may not work for students who are currently logged in to their @saratogausd.org accounts. Students may need to access these links from a personal device.
Auditions will have the following steps:
1.) ALL performers should come prepared to sing (a song TBD). If a student is worried about their voice, they can sing the song only in a group. If a student doesn't know the song in advance, the student will be given the opportunity to practice at the beginning of the audition time. Students will be asked to copy simple dance moves.
2.) Students who would like to be considered for parts with large musical solos (James, Ladahlord, Earthworm . . . .) should also learn the beginning of either TBD
3.) Students will be asked to volunteer to play various parts while reading from the script. Here are the parts of the musical we'll be reading from during the audition (TBD)
If there is any remaining time, students may be asked to repeat lines or musical phrases. Students may be asked their own preferences for roles.
