Project Cornerstone

at Foothill Elementary School

Foothill Elementary PTA is proudly delivering the Project Cornerstone Program provided by a YMCA of Silicon Valley Initiative. This program is led by an annually elected long term lead from the Foothill Elementary PTA board members. This PTA sponsored program trains district cleared volunteers, who then read books in classrooms and deliver a corresponding lesson.

We are making sure all children are feeling important and valued. We focus on ensuring that they have necessary building blocks to become successful, caring and responsible, with a high number of developmental assets. The stories and activities focus on issues like student-to-student respect, how to avoid bullies, and what to do if a bully is victimizing others. Students also learn about values such as honesty, caring, responsibility, and friendship. By sharing these concepts in class, volunteers help create a common language and vocabulary about student respect for the entire school.
